A Magical Christmas Santa Trail
It was the last event of 2015 but it was a real magical occasion, despite the weather! The plans had been set for months using the grounds of Blundells Hill Golf Club with a winter forest planned for a Sunday in late November, hundreds of costumes, decorations and props were all ready, but then the news that every outdoor events organiser dreads, weather so bad that the event had to be cancelled. However we're Rainhill Gala and we don't do cancelling so working quickly with Steve and Phil at Blundells Hill the committee led by Cultural Director Julie and Secretary Zoe set about reworking the trail indoors.
Then came Sunday and so did the wind proving it was indeed the right decision, we were delighted to say that moving the event indoors didn't spoil the fun! Over 400 children were greeted by characters, invited to play games and told stories along the trail and at the end meeting Father Christmas who even brought Mrs Christmas along.
The committee would like to thank everyone who helped with the event, especially Blundells Hill Golf Club for allowing us to take over their clubhouse for the event, Elm Construction who built Santa's Grotto, several members of Rainhill Rotary who stood outside in the extreme weather, Rainhill Musical Theatre Company for dressing up and guiding the children around the trail, St Helens Air Cadets for their help in marshalling people, staff and volunteers at Willowbrook Hospice and of course the dozens of local people and businesses who donated props, came along on the day and helped in many other ways.
